Erin was Simply Jamilah’s February 2020 Hidden Gem. Here is the full interview with the questions in the order they were asked:
SJ: What is the best thing about being a woman?
E: I would say the best thing about being a woman is just being able to be myself: mind, body, and spirit. All of the joys and challenges that come with it.
What is the biggest issue, in the world or your country, that you advocate for?
Recycling; it is so important that we reduce, reuse, and recycle.
If you could go anywhere in the world and take whoever you want with you, where would you go and why?
I would go on a summer vacation to Hawaii with my immediate family to make memories while exploring the island and culture.
Who is Erin? Tell me a little bit about yourself.
Hi, I’m Erin 😉 I love photography, art and anything creative that will challenge me to express myself. I enjoy being in nature as well as bird watching and identifying butterflies. Lastly, I like poetry and collecting postcards from places I’m able to visit.
What are some of your secrets to getting beautiful flat lays?
Sometimes less is more and more is nice. You never know which one it will be until you gather your items and arrange them on your background; then you can take away items or add more.
What is your favorite bird and why?
The Northern Cardinal. The male Northern Cardinal is a beautiful red color with a small area of black feathers around its eyes and beak. It’s the first bird that I learned to identify so every time I see one, I smile.
In the face of adversity, how do you stay optimistic?
Hope and faith keep me optimistic as well as staying focused on the end goal.
Why is it important to celebrate and honor Black History Month?
It’s important to celebrate and honor Black History Month because it’s important to honor the history made by those who came before us as well as unearth and shed light on the hidden figures that helped shape our world today so that they may be celebrated.
Why is it important for women to support other women?
It’s important for women to support other women because we can often relate to each other’s experiences as women first hand.
Talk about a well-known or famous woman who constantly inspires you.
Even though Maya Angelou is no longer with us, she constantly inspires me. When I read her words no matter what year it is, I am inspired.
