2018 SUMMER BUCKET LIST

This list is a bit overdue, but I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with my looong break from the strenuous life of college. This summer is the first time I have freedom and control over what I am able to do, and I really want to have fun, while also being practical. Once I figured that out, I created this bucket list for my summer break, and I really hope everything happens.

  • cut my hair

Ignore the face I’m making; I don’t know what’s happening there. Anyway, I cut ninety percent of my straight, damaged hair off, and I feel so great and healthy. My journey to natural hair is starting, and I can’t wait to see what it will look like in five years. I’m already imagining the possibilities.

May 29th: I got even more cut off, but I’m done now. This is the shortest I will ever go.

  • go to a concert

My best friend invited me to go to the Vance Joy concert (with Lovely the Band as the opening) with her, and I LOVED IT! It was my first concert, and I’m pretty sure several people, especially security, could tell I was very new to concerts. Anyway, it was so much fun, besides the tall guy and his girlfriend who kept getting in front of me. Maria and I were in the pit (I think that’s what you call it), and it was awesome; we were so close to the stage. I just had the time of my life, and I couldn’t be more grateful. By the end of the concert, my feet and knees were hurting, my nose was about to bleed, and I started coughing like a madman, but it was one thousand percent worth it; I honestly can’t wait for the next one.

  6. Fire and the Flood
  7. I’m With You

  14. Riptide
  15. Lay It on Me
  16. Saturday Sun
  • get a good paying job

I got a full-time job at Home Depot, so that’s honestly what most of my summer will be dedicated to.

  • take a road trip

It’s happening. August 20th and 21st. Cincinnati, Ohio with my better half. I’m so pumped.

  • find makeup that matches my skin tone

I didn’t do this, but I’m happy I didn’t. I don’t need makeup. If anything, I have completely accepted my natural face. The only remotely makeup thing I bought was an eyebrow brush because sometimes they get a little out of hand.

  • upcycle clothes

I did this but not in the way I wanted. My plan was to turn these two t-shirts and skirt into a completely different outfit. Of course, nothing goes  according to plan, especially in this case. Instead, the skirt got turned into a pillow, and t-shirts got cut up; the fabric from those are still waiting to be used.

  • perfect riding a bike

The fact that I can get on a bike without struggling is good enough for me. I still have to work on balance, but I know I will perfect in due time. For the time being, it’s getting crossed off the list.

  • finish a season of a show on Netflix

July 20th: I FINALLY finished season/volume 2 of Dear White People, and it was honestly just as good as the first one. It stays relevant and discusses the hard hitting facts of what’s happening in our society. I genuinely love it and am pumped for season/volume 3. Since I finished Dear White People, I decided to start watching Marlon.

  • try new foods

As of May 15th, I have eaten asparagus and guacamole/avocados for the first time. Both were delicious, but if I had to pick one over the other, I would pick asparagus.
May 16th: I ate cooked cabbage for the first time, and it was DELICIOUS. It looked kind of disturbing, but looks can be deceiving.
May 20th: I ate zucchini and squash for the first time, and I wasn’t a fan. It was honestly very hard to get through; hopefully I won’t have to eat that again.
June 14th: I ate Jack in the Box for the first time, and it wasn’t too shabby. I thought it would be really bad because most of the locations around me have closed down. The fries were very plain and boring, but the burger was pretty good.
August 6th: I had lobster for the first time and couldn’t even swallow it; it was so disgusting. I’m just going to stick with shrimp.

  • order merch (any kind would be nice, but I love this tee from Macklemore)

IMG-1882

So… I don’t have photographic evidenced to prove this semi-happened, so you’re just going to have to trust me on this. I actually didn’t order this, but my amaaazing friend gave me the exact shirt pictured above for my birthday. I freaking love it. It was definitely the best birthday gift ever.

  • update my wardrobe

Again, I don’t have photographic evidence, but I have for sure upgraded my wardrobe. I still have some ways to go to make my entire closet to my liking, but I got a pretty solid start this summer. I got a couple of really nice dresses, a new jumpsuit, very amazing bras (which totally constitute as being a part of the wardrobe upgrade), and a really beautifully pair of high-waisted flared jeans. The Macklemore t-shirt was also a major part of the upgrade. Pretty soon, I’m going to sell tons of clothes from my old wardrobe on my Mercari account (jammm18).

  • do something I never thought I would do

I zip lined!!!! I still can’t believe it!! I honestly thought it would be super scary and there would be some sort of adrenaline rush, but none of that was present. It wasn’t a super long zip line, but the fact that I was gliding across the air while being suspended was AMAZING. I went across the line 3 times and didn’t scream at all. It was soooo much fun.

  • give my blog a makeover

If you have not noticed, simplyjamilah.com has gotten a makeover, and she looks fabulous. I’m still using a WordPress theme, which is “Rosalie”, but it doesn’t look that bad. One day, I hope to not use a WordPress theme and have a website where the layout completely reflects me. Besides that, everything is to my liking. I added more social links, my Instagram, and combined the typical “about” section and home page, which is a bit longer of a read, but I really like it. I think the makeover is so beautiful, and I am even more in love with this blog.

  • be inspired

Even with some of the adversities and trials I’ve experienced, this summer was definitely the summer for inspiration. At different points in the summer, I was inspired by literally everything, including the brief conversations I had with some of the customers. My better half, the other member of the “dynamic duo” even inspired me by simply being who she is. The TV shows and movies I watched, the music I listened to, and the books I read inspired me. Even long conversations with my grandparents and car rides with my wonderful aunt have inspired me. I discovered new people to watch on YouTube who have inspired me big time. Inspiration was literally everywhere this summer, and I can’t wait to apply that to both of my channels and this blog and a future project I’m starting to work on.

Final words as of August 14, 2018: Over all, I’m very satisfied with what I’ve accomplished on my bucket list. I accomplished my goals to a tee and beyond.
