Fashion Icon: Alexander McQueen

From Alexander McQueen’s 2002 autumn/winter collection. The name of this is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and I love it.

During my time in Nashville, I went to the Frist with a couple of friends and walked through the Lee Alexander McQueen exhibit.

Being a lover of fashion, I was incredibly inspired walking through the exhibit. So much so that I’m thinking about the exhibit over a month after experiencing it. Honestly, I’m not even sure if it’s still at the Frist.

Throughout the exhibit, there were images of Alexander McQueen doing various tasks in the fashion world, like styling the models and sewing the pieces together. The images captured in the exhibit were done by Ann Ray.

Ann Ray spent thirteen years working alongside McQueen and took over 32,000 photographs. One can only imagine what her closet looked like during their time working together.

The Alexander McQueen label was established in 1992. I don’t want this to give history report vibes; I simply wanted to share the pieces I found the most beautiful and the tiny bits of information I can remember (and low key found the most interesting).

Overall, this is completely random, but who cares?

In 1996, McQueen was appointed the creative director of Givenchy. However, it didn’t last long. It departed in 2001 after struggling to “find his place in the rigid hierarchy at Givenchy.” I completely get this… even though I never worked for Givenchy (obviously).

Lee Alexander McQueen took his life in February 2010. He left approximately 82,000 dollars to his dogs.
