This is a book review of The God of the Woods by Liz Moore with mostly spoilers.
The reviews promised many shocking plot twists, and I understand why people think this is a great book. However, If you pay attention, you can foresee everything that was meant to be a plot twist.
What I Loved
I’m finding it… I’m finding it…
What I... Didn't
Part one? Slow. Dragged. Could’ve been an email.
I’m not mad at the varying perspectives and time jumps, but the time jump within the time jump without a font change? Now that’s confusing.
Producing a bag of vomit as evidence is absolutely disgusting.
John Paul McClellan, or however you spell his name, cheating on Louise with Annabell was not surprising. Honestly, he gave the same energy as Nate from Euphoria season one.
Final Thoughts
I wasn’t at all shocked about Alice being responsible for Bear’s death; given her hysteria, I could see it coming. In fact, there was a point in the book where Alice began to remind me of the woman from The Silent Patient.
Alice’s sister, Delphine, was caught in the bed of Alice’s husband, Peter 3 (or maybe 4), and their affair was obvious. If that was meant to be one of the plot twists, it definitely flopped. Honestly, I’m truly trying to figure out the plot twists; I saw the conclusion from a mile away.
Lastly, I understand why it has the title it has, but I just feel like there are better ones out there that truly encompass what you’re getting into with the book without giving anything away.
"But if she has to live with her mother for a time, she's going to do everything she can to keep the peace, to keep herself calm by simply not engaging."
