The Best of the Met 2025

Superfine: Tailoring Black Style

In my head, I was going to have this written and shared as soon as the blue carpet at the 2025 Met Gala finished. However, I’ve never stared at my screen so intensely for so long, and my head was drumming because of it.

Why was I extremely focused on an event that glorifies elite and wealth while the world, especially America where the event is happening, is burning to the ground?

Because for the first time ever, the Met was Black. There was a focus on Black culture, my culture, and considering Black people are winning 2025, I definitely locked in, especially after a Black choir started the night singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

“The Met Gala reminds us that even though the struggle is hard we must not forget that Black folks survived off of love, light, hope, joy and laughter,” states @blckgirlnarrative on Threads. Honestly, this is the theme for Black people for 2025, maybe even The Orange’s entire presidency, and I’m happy to witness it.

These are my favorite looks from a night of Black dandyism, Black excellence, Black power.

Ugbad Abdi

I didn’t know who this was, but I definitely know now. I would wear this in a heartbeat.

Tessa Thompson

Taraji P. Henson

Quinta Brunson

Lauryn Hill

I’d put this on my body in point five seconds. I already kind of have the afro.

Joey King

The only white person to do the theme justice.

Imaan Hammam

Alton Mason

Justin Jefferson

This just made me love him more.

Damson Idris

Caleb McLaughlin

Andre 3000

Angela Bassett

Zoe Saldana

Zendaya

Yes, I love it, but she stopped filming to match Anna Sawai? That’s… a choice.

Khaby Lame

Brian Tyree Henry

Ugh, I’m obsessed.

Keith Powers

Heart eyes because the outfit is actual perfection.

Colman Domingo

Coco Jones

Not enough people are talking about how good she looks.

Jodie Turner-Smith

Danielle Deadwyler

Doechii

Iconic. Legendary. Perfection.

Laura Harrier

One of the best looks of the night. Literally lives in my head rent-free.

Teyana Taylor

Ruth E Carter, ARE YOU KIDDING ME???!!!! Best outfit of the night, and you can argue with the wall if you disagree.

Despite all the excellence, I agree with what @benkennan said on Threads last night, “Wisdom Kaye not being invited to the Met Gala this year tells you everything you need to know about the weight placed on ‘celebrity’ as opposed to ‘fashion’, & thus why we keep getting boring ass black tuxes with a ~*FuN bRoAcH*~ that designers try to pass off as high fashion. Please.”

Also, Rihanna announcing a third baby before walking the actual carpet? Wild.
